Roger Charles Desoutter RSMA was a painter, born in Hendon to the north of London. he first trained as an engineer and worked on the design of the first British jet engines with Frank Whittle until 1945, sketching in his spare time.


The artist began exhibiting seriously in 1955 when he sold paintings at the Society of Aviation Artists at the Guildhall Art Gallery, London. In 1962 he acquired a boat and became a keen amateur yachtsman and his work has since depicted many marine scenes as well as aeronautical images and landscapes. After 1974 Roger Desoutter exhibited regularly with the Royal Society of Marine Artists of which he became an elected member in 1994.


Many of his paintings have been reproduced as greeting cards and fine art prints and he was a member of Fine Art Trade Guild. Examples of his paintings are in collections in America, Canada, Australia and across Europe and a work depicting a wartime convoy has been purchased by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in New York. His work was regularly exhibited at the gallery of E. Stacy-Marks, Eastbourne.
