Description

The Jeweller's Directory of Shape & Form by Elizabeth Olver, published by A & C Black, London, in 2000.

A heavily illustrated reference work for jewellery designers, makers and students, looking at the relationship between the form of a piece and the materials, techniques, settings and finishes used to produce it.

The opening section introduces jewellery-making techniques and materials, including processes, special techniques, stones, settings, links and joints, fittings, textures, finishes and enamelling.

The main directory then examines different jewellery forms including earrings, necklaces, neckpieces, pendants, brooches, bangles, bracelets, rings, cufflinks, men's jewellery, beads, chains, suites, motifs, fashion jewellery and pieces incorporating found objects and contemporary materials.

Individual sections combine diagrams with photographs of finished jewellery, making this particularly useful as a visual design reference rather than simply a technical manual.
