Description:
This is a remarkably long and narrow fragment of traditional Japanese "Wa-Sarasa" (Japanese chintz). Measuring approximately 130cm x 18cm, its unique dimensions suggest it may have been intended for use as a ceremonial collar, a decorative sash, or as a mounting material for a hanging scroll (Kakemono).

Observations:

Technique: Features a highly precise, microscopic floral and geometric motif. The crispness of the lines is consistent with the "Kata-zome" (stencil-dyeing) technique, a hallmark of skilled Japanese craftsmanship during the Meiji or late Edo periods.

Color & Design: The sophisticated palette of deep indigo with subtle red accents reflects the refined "Komon" aesthetic preferred by the Japanese elite.

Material: Fine-weave cotton with a smooth texture that has softened beautifully with age.
