Fodera Tom Kennedy Emperor II Standard
Fodera, the king of high-end basses.
Fodera was founded in 1983 in Brooklyn, New York, by Vinny Fodera, who made basses in the workshops of Spector and Ken Smith, and Joey Lauricella, a bassist and salesman.
It is a top-of-the-line, handmade brand that is the envy of bassists.
This model, which has just arrived, is a signature model of American session bassist Tom Kennedy, based on the Emperor II.
Although it has a single cutaway design, it is based on the Fender Jazz Bass, so it features a surprisingly traditional playing feel. This is a bolt-on neck construction.
The body has an ash back and a flame maple top. The brass nut adds a stylish touch.
The neck joint isn't Fodera's signature neck-through design, but rather a bolt-on construction, resulting in a tighter sound that stands out clearly in any band's mix.
The preamp features a Fodera custom circuit (18V).
Controls include a master volume, master tone (2 axes), balancer, bass treble EQ (2 axes), high-mid/low-mid EQ (2 axes), coil tap switch, and preamp active/passive switch.
The wiring appears to have been replaced with Oyaide pure silver stranded wire.
Often used in audio equipment, Oyaide states that silver's unique high resolution is clearly evident, resulting in a transparent sound quality completely different from copper stranded wire.
However, when it comes to musical instruments, the interesting thing is that audio-grade performance isn't always the right answer.
Therefore, the original cable is also included, allowing for replacement according to preference; soldering is not required as it uses a socket.
The sound itself is the pinnacle of high-end basses. The bass sound, with its impressive presence and solid core, is truly superb and stimulates the player's imagination.
Although it's a signature model, I think it's a very user-friendly model.
Also, because it has a bolt-on joint, it has a strong JB feel. The open 5th string sound, as expected from Fodera, doesn't have that boomy sound, and it's a high-end instrument that reminds you that expensive instruments are really good.
Condition: There are scratches and dents on the exterior.
Truss rod: Plenty of adjustment range.
Fret condition: Approximately 70% remaining. No buzzing or dead spots, in good condition!
Nut width: Approximately 47mm (measured)
