K. Yairi is a long-established acoustic guitar manufacturer representing Japan.
In the 1970s, amidst the proliferation of acoustic guitar manufacturers, K. Yairi remains a top-class manufacturer, still active on the front lines today.
This time, we have received a YF-00028, a model from K. Yairi's DY/YF series, which is particularly inspired by Martin guitars!
It features a solid Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood sides and back, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, scalloped bracing, a 42mm nut width, and a 635mm scale length auditorium body.
With its characteristically slim neck grip and 000 size, it's an easy-to-hold guitar, making it recommended for those with smaller hands or female players!
The sound is clear, transparent, and beautifully characteristic of K. Yairi!
It produces a clean, crisp sound with a clear, uncolored tone that is characteristic of Yairi guitars.
Of course, it doesn't have the powerful sound of a dreadnought, but even when strumming with a flat pick, it has a good response and a solid, refreshing rosewood sound, making it perfectly usable as a backing guitar for vocals.
Even when fingerpicked, it produces a responsive, transparent, and beautiful tone, allowing you to enjoy the clear Yairi sound in any genre or playing style!
The instrument's condition is very good overall, considering it was made in 2025, but there is a slightly noticeable scratch on the top.
There is a scratch about 1 cm long near the 6th string end of the top, as if something hard had hit it, and from that point, there is a scratch that extends about 10 cm in a V-shape. The initial scratch is fairly noticeable, but the subsequent drag marks aren't as prominent, so you'll probably get used to them and they won't bother you as much.
Also, the neck and headstock of this model have a matte finish, but there's a slightly glossy area above the logo on the headstock where a tuner was attached (?).
It's strange that there's no such trace on the back of the headstock, but once you accept it as part of the design, it's not something that bothers you too much.
The neck condition is good and mostly straight, and the current string height at the 12th fret is an ideal setting of approximately 2.5mm on the 6th string side and 2.0mm on the 1st string side.
There's still room for adjustment on the saddle, so further fine-tuning of the string height is possible.
The frets have some small string marks on the lower frets, but even the most worn areas still retain about 90% of their original height.
Recently, genuine Martin guitars have become incredibly expensive, so this is a great option for those who want to experience the feel of a 000-28 without breaking the bank!
