The bronze medal is in excellent overall condition .  It is un-named.

The Sampson Medal, officially known as the West Indies Naval Campaign Medal, was awarded to crew 
members of the auxiliary cruiser U.S.S.  St. Louis for their vital operations under Rear Admiral William T. Sampson 
during the Spanish-American War of 1898, who participated in strategic engagements in the West Indies and Cuba.
  • The Obverse (Front): Features a profile bust of Rear Admiral William T. Sampson, designed by Charles E. Barber. 
  • The Reverse (Back): Depicts a Sailor firing a ship's gun,  and an armed Marine standing on a rock.
  • The Ribbon and Brooch: Suspended from a distinctive red-blue-red ribbon. 
  • The top brooch bar explicitly features the stamped text U.S.S. ST. LOUIS to signify the recipient's vessel. [1, 2, 3]
