Sampson West Indies Naval Spanish American War Medal

The bronze medal is in excellent condition , as are the clasps and ribbon.  \
Clifford Robb can be found on the Roster of the U.S.S. Indiana during
the West Indies naval campaign. Other information includes:

Clifford Hunter Robb served as an Apprentice, First Class in the United States Navy aboard the battleship
  ⁠USS Indiana (BB-1) during the Spanish-American War in 1898. [1, 2]
Service on the USS Indiana
As a naval apprentice on the country's first true pre-dreadnought battleship, Robb was part of the 
North Atlantic Squadron under Admiral William T. Sampson. During his time aboard the ⁠USS Indiana
the ship and its crew saw significant frontline action in the Caribbean theater: [1, 2, 3, 4]
  • The Blockade of Cuba: The ship participated in the naval blockade of the northern coast of 
  • Cuba and Santiago de Cuba to trap the Spanish fleet. [1, 2]
  • Battle of Santiago de Cuba (July 3, 1898): Robb and his crewmates fought in this decisive naval battle. 
  • While the Indiana was unable to keep pace with the faster fleeing Spanish cruisers, the ship's guns were
