Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

  You are looking at a rarer 1971 Electro Voice 654A dynamic cardioid microphone with a low impedance setting (150 OHMS) that was sold as a quality studio model by E.V for quite a few years starting in the mid 1960's I believe and stopped production in the early 1980's. This unique microphone was a high end, lite weight mic with a rugged construction which was a shortened version of the 655C model I believe as they both utilized the same element. The signal on this 654A sounds like new...strong and clear!

 This was an expensive model offered by E.V and so you don't see a lot of these around. This is the first example I have had to offer in many months. This mic comes with the quality, period Belden cable and original E.V model mic clip.

 The 654A is an omni-directional mic so using one of these with a acoustic guitar is always a great choice. The mic is not bass heavy like a Shure SM-58. It's much more mid range and brighter in nature. A very nice, smooth tone with excellent characteristics. I would compare this very much to an E.V 635A which is very bright and not bass heavy at all.

 The 654A is not physically perfect by any means but it's one of the nicest examples I have come across. It's been thoroughly cleaned and gone over inside and out. It's ready for another 50 years of use.

 This microphone has a stock painted olive drab tube that shows just a few paint chips here and there as you can see in the pics provided. Just a small dent on the front bezel of the mics tube. Nothing loose or missing. The E.V badge is perfectly legible and in excellent shape. It's a 1971 model. The front screen isn't perfect. Just some lite tarnish. The inner pop filter was replaced as the original was all but worn out. Electro Voice painted these mics as many of the satin chrome bodies on other E,V models were not ideal for live T.V or televised events with the extreme glare the chrome would put off from studio lights. 

 The mic can either be handheld or placed in a mic clip. An original E.V mic clip is provided and it's in very nice shape. It shows lite wear but works perfectly and grip the mic very well. It will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have. The E.V mic clip alone is a $40.00 piece. This 654A is an easy 8 on a scale of 1 - 10 physically speaking. 

 One of the most collectable E.V mics of all time and they continue to rise in value.

 The mic also comes with a nice 18 foot Belden 8402 model XLR cable in which to operate the 654A. It's soft, pliable and in excellent condition. More than enough length to work with in the studio or on stage. It has a standard male and female Switchcraft XLR end connectors.

 If you need an excellent 654A to use on the daily or just for special occasions then this will do the trick nicely.
