**Item Description:**
An elegant late-Victorian / early-Edwardian silver-plated novelty butter dish in the classic scallop shell pattern. Manufactured by the renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons (Sheffield) and retailed through the prominent regional high-street jeweller J. Newlands of Portland Street, Kilmarnock, Scotland.

**Features & Markings:**
- Stamped underneath with the William Hutton & Sons "EP [arrow] NS" cross-arrow trade mark.
- Inscribed with the retailer name: "Newlands, Kilmarnock".
- Beautifully designed wedge-shaped shell lid and wavy scalloped base tray.
- Retains its rare, original molded frosted glass interior liner.

**Condition:**
The silver-plated frame is in good antique condition with bright plating and minor age-related surface wear/tarnish. Crucially, the original frosted glass liner is present; it has a slight chip on one of the corners (please see final photo). When placed inside the dish, this chip is largely hidden and does not affect display.
