This chrome card, mailed from Wales or England in August 1989 to Erika in Jena-Lobeda, East Germany, carries a message written in German about traveling through England and Scotland ("viele Tage lang… jetzt Schottland"), complaining cheerfully about the rainy weather while praising the scenery. Sent just three months before the fall of the Berlin Wall, this ordinary holiday card crossed the Cold War divide — addressed to DDR 6902, it is a small, vivid artifact of the final summer of divided Germany.
