Antique stoneware commemorative ale jug, made by Mortlock’s Ltd, Oxford Street, London, W. Manufactured to commemorate the Conservative Success in Hertfordshire July 1895, Abel Smith, Halsey, Hudson, Gibbs. The surface opposite the handle bears a sprig in the shape of a shield with the words - ‘Liberty Loyalty and Prosperity. In fair condition. There is a chip in the rim opposite the handle which has been professionally repaired. There is a small deficit in the rim ( above the word ‘Success’) which must have been a maker’s flaw as it has been glazed fully. The base bears a maker’s mark and ‘triangular’ impression along with Mortlock’s stamp. There is slight crazing along the inside rim. It measures 6 inches high, with a maximum rim diameter of 5.75 inches and a base diameter of 4 inches - weight, 900 grams. Please see photos for a more detailed description.
