Vintage 1927 White House Relic Wooden Gavel – Pine from White House Remodel + Walnut from Mt. Vernon,  Secretary of Agriculture Arthur M. Hyde – 10.5" Long

This is a rare and historically significant presentation gavel crafted from salvaged materials tied to two iconic American landmarks.

Head: Made from pine removed from the White House during its major 1927 remodeling/renovation under President Calvin Coolidge. The inscription reads: "HEAD Pine removed from WHITE HOUSE when remodeled 1927".

Handle: Fashioned from walnut sourced from Mount Vernon, George Washington's historic estate.

Printed Signature: Arthur M. Hyde, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture (served 1929–1933 under President Herbert Hoover). He succeeded William M. Jardine, who distributed similar gavels (often with hickory handles) to 4-H groups and others around the 1927 renovation period.

Dimensions: Approximately 10.5 inches long overall. Solid, well-crafted construction with a classic gavel shape—sturdy head and tapered handle showing nice wood grain and age-appropriate patina.

Condition: Excellent for its age, with clear, legible inscriptions, natural wood wear, and no major damage. A true collector's piece that displays beautifully. It has an s indented in the head as shown in the picture.

These gavels were created as special souvenirs and presentation items from surplus wood salvaged during White House renovations in the Coolidge era. Similar examples (often linked to the Department of Agriculture) were given to dignitaries, agricultural leaders, and youth groups like 4-H, symbolizing American history, agriculture, and patriotism. This one stands out with the walnut handle from Mt. Vernon and the printed signature of Secretary Hyde, making it a unique historical artifact connecting the White House, Mount Vernon, and a key figure in early 20th-century U.S. agriculture policy.

Perfect for collectors of presidential memorabilia, political history, woodworking relics, or Americana. A fantastic conversation piece that represents a tangible link to the executive mansion and our nation's founding heritage.
