IT'S "CHRISTMAS IN JULY" !!!  LISTED THIS MONTH IS A GROUP OF ANTIQUE / VINTAGE CHRISTMAS THEMED ITEMS (AND TOYS), AS WELL AS SOME AMERICANA ITEMS.  PLEASE CHECK OUT ALL THE OTHER AUCTIONS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.

Listed for sale is an antique TEXTILE SEWING HEMMING Wood CLAMP from America c. 1880-1890.  This wood and metal tool was found in Pennsylvania-German country.  It's a long slender wood tool with an attached thin metal piece.  There's a spring at one end, causing the two pieces to separate when the tool is pinched.  The metal "tongue" would be inserted into a folded hem while the wood portion would be clamped down on the fabric (on top of a work table) to hold it in place.  This allowed the seamstress to more easily sewn the hem of a dress or other garment.

The clamp measures 10 1/4 inches long and remains in excellent condition with minor in-use wear.  The spring works nicely.  It's a wonderful relic from a by-gone era when handmade clothes making was a daily regular routine in homes across America.  This would be a terrific addition to any antique textile artifacts collection!
