DESCRIPTION
From a Maine estate collection. Beautiful and authentic Native American hand made ash splint lidded gathering or storage basket. Penobscot, Passamaqouddy, Mi'kmaq, or other tribe of the Wabanaki Confederacy. Hand-split brown ash. Vegetable dyed polychrome splint colorations. Traditional form with a fitted lid. Classic example of Eastern Woodlands basketry—both functional and highly decorative, suitable for display or collection.
CONDITION
Overall very good. Structurally sound and sturdy. Lid has some broken splints around the rim. One or two small broken strands in the body. Rich, nut brown age patina (all visible in the images).
