DESCRIPTION

Wonderful portable writing desk in bird's eye maple.  Opalescent geometric mother-of-pearl inlays on the beveled edges of the lid, with a central inlaid brass cartouche.  Interior is richly grain painted in red and black to resemble rosewood.  Bright purple writing surfaces covering interior compartments.  Lidded pen section.  Contains two glass inkwells, one retaining a cork stopper, and a cylindrical wooden jar for drying sand, powder or charcoal.   

CONDITION

Overall very good.  Non-functioning lock mechanism.  Missing one interior retaining latch.  Minor surface loss on the inside rim of the box.  Some exterior surface wear and losses, well consistent with age and use (all visible in the images). A GREAT FOLK ART DECORATED LAP DESK
