About the artist
David Balder was born at 1 Naomi House, Clarkson Road, Oulton Broad,
Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1935, son of Peter William Balder (18 August
1891-1948), a marine fitter & general engineer, and his wife
Rosabella née Pitchers (20 April 1899-19 September 1996), who
married at Oulton, Suffolk on 16 January 1920 and in 1939 were still
living at 1 Naomi House. David commenced his education at Gorleston Road
School, Oulton Broad but being evacuated spending his early school
years in Derbyshire and later in Norfolk, after which his education
continued in Lowestoft. His interest in art commenced only when an art
club was being formed at Oulton Broad, which he joined in 1976 and
continued as a member of Oulton Broad Art Circle, being elected Chairman. About 1980, he joined the Lowestoft Art Group, becoming Chairman and later President, he was also a member of the Beccles Society of Artists and exhibited regularly. He married in 1958 Margaret Rose Stone
(1933-16 June 2013) and lived at 35 Moyes Road, Lowestoft, Suffolk.
David paints at home and in watercolour and he ran a small art class at
Oulton Broad.
