If you want to wear a kimono in the traditional Japanese style, choose a length that’s about 5cm longer or shorter than your height. For instance, if you’re 160cm tall, a kimono between 155 cm and 165 cm would be a good fit. (However, if you omit the obi and wear it as a robe, size isn't an issue.) Kimonos are often made to be passed down from parent to child, with this tradition in mind. Many feature a technique called "nuikomi" (sewn-in) that allows adjustments to the length of the bodice, sleeves, and shoulders. However, because they are lined, undoing the stitching to make these changes can take some time. | |
