This antique stenotype machine, manufactured by The Stenotype Company of Indianapolis, represents an early advancement in shorthand technology used for court reporting and high-speed transcription. Introduced in the early 1910s, the Model No. 5 featured a specialized keyboard layout designed for phonetic recording, allowing operators to type words as they sounded rather than letter by letter, a standard that paved the way for modern stenography.


• Heavy-duty cast metal housing with original black finish and gold-tone lettering
• Authentic shorthand keyboard with distinctive key shapes and mechanical linkage
• Patent dates of January 3, 1911 and April 1, 1913 visible on the manufacturer's plate
• Measures approximately 11" long by 9" wide by 5" tall


Condition: For parts or repair. This item is not in working condition and is being sold strictly for parts, restoration, or as a decorative display piece. The exterior shows significant dust accumulation and surface wear consistent with long-term storage and age. Mechanical functionality is restricted or non-functional as stated in the documentation. Original manufacturer labels and branding remain clearly legible.
