VERY UNUSUAL 19TH CENTURY STONEWARE BATTER PITCHER

About 10" high x 9 1/2" across the handle and spout.

DESCRIPTION

A substantial wheel-thrown stoneware batter pitcher with a rich dark green and black variegated glaze, ranging from dark olive green to black.  Applied strap handle.  Coil formation lines plainly visible.  Glaze suggests a probable Pennsylvania, Ohio or North Carolina origin.

CONDITION

Overall very good.  No hairlines.  Several small rim chips and minor glaze loss around the base (visible in the images).  A FINE AND RARE MID 19TH CENTURY STONEWARE BATTER PITCHER.
