GUILD D-55 Natural 2021
Description
The D-55, first introduced in 1968 as a special-order, top-of-the-line model, was so well-received that Guild added it to their regular production line in 1974.
Famous for Tommy Smothers' performance on the Smothers Brothers Show in the late 1960s, the D-55 remains highly popular even more than 50 years after its release.
This particular D-55 features the specifications of the 2017 reissue, and based on the serial number, it was manufactured in 2021.
It faithfully inherits the specifications of the D-55 manufactured around 1968, including an AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and nitrocellulose finish.
Furthermore, the 2017 reissue incorporated changes from the original specifications, such as scalloped Adirondack bracing and an improved dovetail neck joint, resulting in a lighter weight, greater volume, and superior sound.
The distinctive headstock of this Guild guitar features multi-binding and peak and shield inlays. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound and adorned with Guild's iconic abalone pearl V-block inlays and multi-line railroad track purfling.
The neck is made of mahogany with a beautiful walnut center seam running from heel to headstock. It has a comfortable, moderately thick C-shaped grip.
The nitrocellulose lacquer is hand-sprayed to achieve minimal thickness and maximum resonance, and changes in tone and color can be expected over time.
While there are some signs of use, such as scratches, dents, minor paint chipping, and thinning, there is no significant damage that would severely impair its appearance or playability. Given its recent manufacture, it maintains a relatively clean appearance. The frets show no visible localized dents or wear, and overall retain their height well. There is no noticeable buzzing or dead spots.
