Antonio Marin Montero, made in 1975.

Description

Antonio Marin Montero, 1975
Antonio Marin Montero (1933-) is a leading figure in Granada, Spain, and a master craftsman respected by guitarists and luthiers worldwide.
After working as a furniture maker in his youth, he learned traditional Granada guitar-making techniques at Eduardo Ferrer's workshop and opened his own workshop at the age of 26. In the 1970s, while gaining recognition through collaborations with Manuel Bedido, another luthier who had trained at Ferrer's workshop, he met the legendary French craftsman Robert Bouchet in Paris through an introduction from a Japanese resident in Granada, and was greatly influenced by him.

In 1977, at the age of 44, he visited the Bouchet workshop in Paris, where a deep friendship developed between the two. They collaborated on several guitars, and from then on, he fundamentally changed his approach to guitar making, opening up new frontiers and continuing to produce truly artistic guitars, establishing a worldwide reputation.

At his workshop in Granada, he continued his work alongside his nephew, José Marín Plasuelo, and his apprentice, José González López.

In Granada, numerous internationally-based luthiers, including the late Bernd Martin from Germany, René Barslag from the Netherlands, and John Ray from Canada, have come to make guitars, drawn by his reputation and character and having received his guidance.

His guitars possess the tone and dignity of a masterpiece, yet are remarkably easy to play, possessing a refined yet powerful sound, keen response, and nuanced touch. His works, embodying his own aesthetic, are highly regarded by guitarists and enthusiasts worldwide.

This 1975 model has a repaired crack on the right side of the soundboard and a patch on the back, and a few minor scratches, but it remains in remarkably good condition for a piano over 50 years old.

Although it predates his encounter with Bouchet, this piano, already over 40 years old, possesses a superb sound that demonstrates his established mastery.

It boasts a meltingly beautiful and rich, expansive resonance. Each note is clearly articulated, with a balanced and pleasing harmony in chords. The sustain is rich and seems to extend endlessly. In addition to its ample volume, it allows for easy control of dynamics and tonal variations, expanding the possibilities of the player's expression.
