Original European real photo postcard (RPPC), dating to the early 20th century (circa 1910s–early 1920s), depicting a Catholic wake or laying-out of an elderly woman. The photograph shows the deceased arranged indoors on a bier or coffin lid, presented according to established Catholic mourning customs.
The body is covered with a white lace shroud and surrounded by dense floral garlands and tall ceremonial candlesticks, creating a formal and symmetrical devotional composition. Such imagery reflects ritualized Catholic wake practices common in Central and Eastern Europe during the period. The postcard is printed on period photographic stock with scalloped edges and a divided back.
Condition:
Unused. Scalloped edges intact. Light toning to the card stock with minor age spotting visible on the reverse. The photographic image remains clear with good contrast.
