Krishna and Gopis Traditional Composition
Gouache and Gold Paint on Support
24" x 30"
Unsigned
This elaborate Indian miniature painting depicts the "Raslila" or divine play of Lord Krishna, featuring multiple circular vignettes set against a deep green ground. The central figure of Krishna is surrounded by Gopis (cowherd maidens) engaging in music and dance. The work is executed in a traditional Rajasthani style, likely influenced by Pichwai traditions, characterized by its ornate borders and the use of raised white dotting to simulate pearl jewelry and intricate textural details.
• Detailed circular medallions featuring figures in traditional attire with musical instruments
• Ornate floral borders with gold-tone accents and intricate hand-painted motifs
• Large-scale format for traditional miniature style, housed in a vintage wooden frame
• Overall dimensions: 24" x 30" x 1"
Condition: Fair vintage condition. The protective glass shows numerous surface scratches and scuffs throughout that are visible in direct light. The dark-stained wooden frame exhibits significant wear, including abrasions, finish loss, and chipped edges. The painting itself shows stable age-related toning and minor surface variations consistent with its folk-art origin.
