The Canon Soft Shutter Release screws into the shutter release thread on an F-1 (or other similarly-threaded camera such as AE-1, A-1 etc.), and provides a pleasing "soft" feel without the thread hole on one's fingertip. It is designed with the old-style "C" of Canon on top, and originally was painted black with a white "C". Some of the paint has worn away, uncovering the sold shiny metal underneath. This could be left as is, showing quite an attractive patina with a story, or could be stripped back to solid metal for a different look.

However you decide to use it, very few others will have one of these on their camera.
