I was working in NYC in 1986 and attended the US Open at Shinnecock, won by Ray Floyd, and purchased this sweater. Several years later my late friend Peter Williams, a NZ artist, was going to deliver two paintings he did for Maria Floyd as replacements for those lost when the Floyd’s house burned. I asked Peter if he would take this sweater and ask Ray to sign it which he did. Not a very good signature but I understand writing on a soft material is difficult. I think Ray was better at chipping and putting. It’s in very good condition with a barely noticeable repair (pic) on the right shoulder. With the US Open returning to Shinnecock this year I thought putting this item up for auction and sending the proceeds to First Tee would be appropriate.
