Compared with those of many other dinosaurs, Saltasaurus
eggshells were unusually thick. This strong structure suggests the species
invested heavily in protecting its young. The thicker shells may have helped
defend the eggs from predators during incubation and supported stable internal
conditions for embryo development.
Discoveries of Saltasaurus nests have also revealed
more about its breeding behaviour. The nests were often grouped together,
suggesting that several females may have used shared nesting sites. This
communal approach could have offered better protection, as more adults may have
helped deter predators, and it may also have encouraged social interaction and
cooperative care of the young.
