Fine antique land and seascape painting entitled OKINAWA in English and signed by the artist in Japanese.
This charming painting depicts a few homes with gardens on an ocean coast with trees and distant hills.
The Okinawa English title and Japanese signature are in red lower right.
Measures 13 1/8" high by 17 7/8" wide.
Painted on masonite board which measures about 1/8 " thick.
I can usually ascertain what kind of paint is used but am uncertain whether acrylic, gouache, perhaps even oil thinly applied.
One can see by the waviness under the paint that the artist applied a white, perhaps gesso, fairly thick undercoat on the board before painting.
Distinct, modernist style of brushwork.
Painted on back lower right: No 62, which seems to apply to the painting.
Not sure when this was done but circa 1930s? It's pastoral appeal feels to be pre WWII.
Good condition but has a few small white spots of missing paint. The paint, however, is in good condition and is not loose and peeling.
Unframed.
Who painted this so competently, signed it in Japanese and entitled it OKINAWA ?
