Oliver Hill and Hans Tisdall
Balbus a picture book of buildings
Published 1944
This book was owned and signed by Raymond Kanelba. I knew George, his son, who was a very brilliant man and architect in New York City. I lived near George and his wife Sita Gomez a Cuban born amazing artist and still to this day friends with Sita (94 years old)
It was just amazing to get this book (not from Sita) and tell a little about Raymond life.
Raymond was born in Poland in 1897 educated in Warsaw, Vienna and Paris. He became a famous painter mostly for his portraits of women as well as flowers, interiors and street scenes. In 1955 he was commission to paint the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
He had displays in France and a big exposition in New York City.
Its just amazing to me that we come across books passed on from previous owners we know nothing about.
