I am selling an ash glazed chawan by the artist Choshun Tenzan (b.1949).

The bowl is named as "Illuminating Sincerity (Shosei)" and the style of the bowl is word-play of the bowl name and the appearance of the bowl "Bright Illumination chawan" (Meisho Chawan). The bowl was made in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the kiln and the career of the artist. In this bowl under the glaze is partly visible his seal.

The chawan is in excellent condition. There is no signs of damage, use or repairs. Even though the interior of the bowl unglazed areas or holes with clay showing (popped stone inclusions?) - the bowl does not leak or seep.

Comes with the original wooden box, cloth with the name of the bowl and artist CV. The lid is marked with the style and name of the bowl along with the artist signature. Backside of the lid have the same information, the history of the bowl (made for 40th anniversary) and what seems to be a date which I have not been able to translate with certainty.

Heisei - era

Choshun Tenzan is not a very well known name here in the West. It's very difficult to find information of him but the most important things to say is that he was born in 1949, meaning his pottery career has been spanning approximately 50 years, he is still active and he fires his work in an anagama kiln in Takayama. His masterpieces in Japan have been formally dedicated to temples such as Daitoku-ji in Kyoto and Enryaku-ji on Mt. Hiei.
