The Enju school was founded by Hiromura of Shikkake, Yamato Province.
His son Kunimura, who moved to Kumafu, Kikuchi County, Higo (present-day Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture),
is the de facto founder.
Kunimura first left Yamato for Kyoto to study under Rai Kuniyuki and became his wife's son-in-law.
In response to a request from the Kikuchi clan, he moved to Higo and founded the Enju school,
which produced many master craftsmen over the course of about 100 years
until the end of the Northern and Southern Courts period,
including Kuniyoshi, Kunitoki, Kuniyasu, Kuniyasu, Kunisuke, Kuninobu, and Kunikiyo.
