An interesting and attractive Carlton Crested China model of First World War British fish-tailed Submarine E9. HMS E9 was built by Vickers at Barrow and was commissioned on June 18 1914. The "fish-tail" was a design feature. She was the first British submarine to score a successful offensive attack in the war when, under the command of Lieutenant-Commander Max Horton, she sank the German cruiser SMS Hela. She also later sank the destroyer S116 and the cruiser Bremen. For his actions, Horton was awarded the DSO. E9 was scuttled in 1918 to prevent capture. This model is about 5.75" long, has a City of Cardiff crest and is in very good condition with no damage (See photos). Please email me with any questions.
