Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic very nice working microphone from the 1960's / 70's era that would be great for any studio use and happens to be one of the best snare mics around.

The mic is a quality Shure 545S model dynamic cardioid microphone with the satin chrome finish and excellent uni-directional characteristics. A very popular mic for broadcasting and singing purposes and set at low impedance having a warm, smooth tone with just the right amount of bass and superb frequency response. It comes with the period short cable and newer black vinyl pouch in which to store.

Pic # 2 is an old Shure catalog sheet I have on the 545S along with a couple other variants and their basic characteristics.

This 545S was sold during the 1960's to 1980's before being discontinued and has the unique lower pistol grip with the on / off switch and older 4 pin cable attachment. These early examples were made in the USA but eventually in the 1980's Shure moved the manufacturing to Mexico and eventually the 545S became the 545SH with the standard XLR cable attachment.

These early 545S models are very desirable and were basically an 1st gen SM57 with the chrome finish. This is the only 545S in the Low Z setting I currently have to offer and this one is a real gem. It works like brand new with 100% signal strength and will not disappoint.

I do replace the inner foam pop filters in these mics as they are always shot. It's important to do that to any older 545, 545S or SM57. The new foam I install will last another 50 years.

The mic has been cleaned and everything is tight. Nothing loose or unfinished.

The 545S was a bit more expensive then the standard 545 version. Many mics of the 1950's to 70's had the lower pistol grip and it really lost favor by the 1980's as all the mic manufactures stop making their mics with the built in lower grip. The modern mic used nothing more than a mic clip now. More practical but less intriguing. The 545S has a classic mid century vibe.

This example has very lite cosmetic wear as seen in the pictures provided and one of the nicer examples you could ask for. The satin chrome has a very nice luster. No deep scratches or heavy pitting on the satin chrome. The front screen is free of odors, tarnish or dents. There are some very lite scuff marks and scratches on the the black plastic cartridge but otherwise the mic is quite beautiful. The Shure label looks very nice and completely legible.

The mic comes with a shorter 7 foot cable that's in excellent condition. It screws right onto the mic and you can just leave it on. Simply attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension if needed. The short cable has the quality Switchraft XLR end connector.

The newer black vinyl mic pouch is included as well in which to store your items. The pouch is a great place to keep the mic safe and snug. The zipper works great and the pouch shows virtually no wear.

If you demand an excellent working 545S to use frequently...this is your mic. Mic is a very  easy 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
