DESCRIPTION
From a Maine estate collection. Beautiful and authentic Native American hand made ash splint and sweetgrass lidded sewing basket. Likely Penobscot Nation, Maine, and part of the broader Wabanaki basketmaking tradition.. Ash splint construction with a wrapped rim and braided sweetgrass. Sweetgrass handle on the lid. Interior and base show the original vegetable dye polychrome coloration.
CONDITION
Overall very good. Structurally sturdy and sound. One edge of the lid rim is worn and loose. Rich, dark nut-brown patina attests to the age (all visible in the images).
