Exquisite Decorative NIPPON CHOCOLATE POT with 5 CHOCOLATE CUPS & SAUCERS Hand Painted RAISED GOLD FLORALS w/GOLD Trim, MAPLE LEAF mark from Japan, circa 1891-1921
DESCRIPTION: This antique chocolate pot set has the raised gold skillfully hand painted flowers. with extensive scrollwork The raised gold painting is on the cream bands. The handles are also cream with gold trim. The inside of the pot and the inside of the cups is white porcelain. The rims are trimmed in gold including the foot of the pot and the feet of the cups. The gold trim is on the spout of the chocolate pot. See the photos.
CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find no defects or damage. There is no wear to the gold on the spout or handles on the cups or pot. The handle of the lid does show minor age appropriate wear. There is no wear to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this set is.
DIMENSIONS: The chocolate pot has a base diameter of 4 1/8" and a top diameter of 4 1/8" with the spout to handle measurement being 6 3/4" and a height of 8" to the top of the lid. The capacity of the chocolate pot is 5 cups. The chocolate cups have a bottom diameter of 1 7/8" and a top diameter of 2 9/16" with a height of 2 11/16". Their capacity is 4 ounces. The saucers have a diameter of 5 1/4" and a height of 3/4".
HISTORY/MARKS: The mark on the base of this set is the Nippon Maple Leaf that Joan Van Patten's ABC's of Collecting Nippon Porcelain cited as mark #52. "Hand Painted Nippon" & "Made in Japan" marks are in different scripts so we conclude the the "Made in Japan " mark was added later to satisfy the USA regulations. Nippon was produced 1891-1921. This was probably late in the time period due to additional mark of "Made in Japan", so we set the circa to the 1918-1921 time period.
