Original 20th century (30s 40s) oil painting in the manner of well listed Belgian artist Herman Verbaere. Depicts an eye catching Belgium townscape/landscape complete with canal, bridge, old buildings and church with trees in the distance. Very well done with pleasing brushstrokes and great use of color. Unsigned however the theme style, colors and brushstrokes are similar with Verbaere; Perhaps one of his pupils. It is very likely the church of the flamisch town of Lissewege, East-Flanders, Belgium. Medium is oil on canvas. Framed in a contemporary wood frame.

In Very Good condition with gentle signs of wear. Small chip to paint at top right corner where it meets the frame. This has been relined and backed with an additional canvas during a restoration at one point. It does not appear to be trimmed down. The canvas is nailed to new stretcher bars and framed. Ready to hang. Displays beautifully.

Born in Wetteren, Verbaere was a versatile artist - painter, draftsman, and poster designer for the Belgian National Railways.

His work often blends Impressionism with Realism, characterized by broad brushstrokes and a poetic treatment of light and color.

He was primarily inspired by the Flemish countryside, frequently painting village views, farmhouses, and scenes along the Scheldt river.
