An authentic piece of British social history, this classic "A-frame" industrial utility stool was manufactured by the renowned Bennet Furnishing Company of Glasgow. Established in 1880, Bennet was celebrated for producing exceptionally robust, mechanically advanced furniture designed to withstand decades of heavy use in schools, universities, and laboratories across the UK.
This stool features a beautifully weathered rectangular top showcasing Bennet's signature interlocking mechanical finger/dovetail joinery along the short edges—a testament to the over-engineered build quality of the era. The subtly splayed, tapered legs provide excellent stability, braced by a sturdy four-sided perimeter stretcher that doubles as a comfortable footrest.
Adding immensely to its historical value and provenance, the side apron retains a the original circular red maker's ink stamp reading "BENNET GLASGOW".
The stool is in excellent structural condition, remaining rock-solid with no loose joints or wobbles. It boasts an incredible, honest industrial patina earned through decades of genuine use. The timber features a deeply characterful mix of light weathering, surface scuffs, historical ink stains, and faint paint splatters on the legs. Rather than detracted by these marks, its vintage aesthetic is enhanced, making it a perfect standout feature piece for rustic, loft, or modern farmhouse interiors.
