Westville Westel Semi-Hollow Spruce top, Honduras Mahogany back C8-AL4
Description
Westville Guitars began full-scale production in 2014. This is the first model in their Crossover Series, launched in December 2022: the Westel, a semi-hollow body guitar.
The design, which combines a comfortable playing feel with refined lines and surfaces, pays homage to the legendary Telecaster while reflecting Westville's design philosophy down to the smallest detail. Although not easily visible from the outside, the beautifully and meticulously crafted 3D body interior, designed to achieve a balance of rigidity, weight balance, and desired acoustic characteristics, is another point we would like to highlight.
The neck is a one-piece hard maple, and the fingerboard is made of genuine ebony. The stepped tapered headstock, an original design that aims for the ideal head angle and strength while optimizing the peg mounting angle and reducing tuning friction, also incorporates Westville's unique ideas.
While the body size is almost the same as a typical Telecaster-style guitar, the scale length is 251.4 inches, slightly shorter than a so-called long scale. Combined with the aforementioned tapered headstock, this results in a comfortable tension, making it useful for guitarists who frequently use stretch voicings.
This model features a solid Sitka spruce top and a solid Honduran mahogany back, resulting in a guitar that delivers soft, clear harmonics and a rich, deep bass.
The pickups include a newly developed Japanese-made original humbucker with an Alnico 4 magnet in the bridge position, and a newly developed Crest8 pickup in the neck position. The design aims for a microphonic sound, preventing boominess even on the 6th string when thumb-picking. Of course, it pairs perfectly with pedals. The Crest8 pickup is also designed to be replaceable with a generic humbucker without any woodworking modifications. Regarding the finish, a glossy lacquer topcoat is used. Therefore, it is prone to scratches, but please understand this is unavoidable. For the neck finish, a smooth-feeling matte finish was chosen. The matte topcoat paint is a highly durable poly-based paint, and it has been applied thinly, carefully, and evenly.
As with previous Westville products, a high-quality Japanese-made gig bag is available separately.
