VINTAGE 30's Elegant Black Silk Taffeta Couture Gown Saks 5th Ave S/M Off Shoulder Bias Cut

This amazing gown is made of rich, rustling silk taffeta. The gown is bias cut with diamond shaped insets (gussets) on each side of the waist. There are also additional triangle panels below the knee to create a very full, sweeping hem. The strapless dress has a wide, off shoulder, fold over collar that's ruched in the front center. One of the diamond insets at the waist opens and closes with hand sewn small hooks and eyes and tiny snaps. All of them are secure and in working order. The hem is 6" wide and is also hand sewn. The dress appears to be handmade, couture from Saks Fifth Ave.   Another label dates it to the 30's. It's stamped NRA, used for 4 years during the Great Depression. 

The off shoulder collar is attached to the dress in just a few places. They are each missing some or all of the stitches. Photos 15-19 show this. These should be easy to re-attach.

It's an stunning dress, truly unique.
