This original military map comes from a large batch of German and Japanese examples captured by the US Army during WW2. They were assessed, processed and held by the US ARMY MAP SERVICE before eventually being donated to a prominent University. After more than 60 years in their archives, the maps were recently 'deaccessioned' and offered for sale. Most have official military ink stamps of some kind or other, but none of them were ever stamped by the University.

The example offered here is a "DEUTSCHE HEERESKARTE" (German Army Map) entitled "QUARNARO - ZARA".

It's headed "Nur für den Dienstgebrauch" (equivalent to a "RESTRICTED" British military map) and was printed in May 1943.

Following its capture, some official additions have been made by the US “ARMY MAP SERVICE”. These are as follows...

  • A six digit archive serial number in the bottom right corner.

  • A "GER..." prefixed serial number in the bottom left corner which is simply an abbreviation of “GERMANY” to record its country of origin.

Will be shipped as per its existing fold lines.
