Antique repoussé copper wall plaque
likely of German origin, c.1890.
The relief depicts a lively kitchen interior
with a figure presenting fish to a cook
working at a preparation table.
Hanging poultry and kitchen utensils
complete the domestic scene.
Scenes of everyday kitchen life like this
were popular in Dutch genre painting
of the 17th–18th centuries and later
inspired decorative works produced
in Germany around 1900.
The plaque is executed in repoussé copper
with a dark oxidized background and
polished highlights emphasizing the relief.
The plaque is formed as one piece
with crown-shaped edges, crimped
over the copper rim.
Diameter: 2 5/8 inches.
Thickness: approx. 5/8 inch.
Very good antique condition
commensurate with age.
The back retains the original
paper backing.
