DESCRIPTION
Six plays by John Dryden, bound into a single volume. Contains multiple separately titled plays, including "All For Love, or The World Well Lost, "The Indian Emperor or the Conquest of Mexico, Being a Sequel of The Indian Queen," "Aurenge-Zebe, or the Great-Mogul," "The Spanish Fryar, or The Double Discovery," "Don Sebastian, King of Portugal," and "Amphitryon: or The Two Sosias." London, printed in 1710. Embossed calf leather binding. I was not able to find another example of this edition, with all six works in a single volume.
CONDITION
Overall very good. Binding strong and tight. Front cover detached. Some wear and stains to the binding. Has the expected age toning of a 315-year old book (all visible in the images). A RARE, POSSIBLY UNIQUE EARLY 18TH CENTURY VOLUME BY ENGLAND'S MOST VENERATED PLAYWRIGHT OF THE PERIOD.
John Dryden (1631-1700) was an English poet, translator and playwright. In 1668, he was appointed England's first Poet Laureate.
