Raspberry Pi Model A or Zero Multi-Core Co-Processor adapter board
for the BBC Master 128
Updated and Fully assembled - no soldering required

This is a Buy-It-Now sale, for a new Raspberry Pi Multi-Core Co-Processor adapter board, for the BBC Master 128.

In this sale you are buying just the adapter PCB assembled and tested, that allows you to plug your own Raspberry Pi Model A or Zero into it, and once fitted with a suitable MicroSD card and firmware, it can operate as a Multi-Core Second Processor system, running at lightning speeds! All Model As come fitted with the GPIO 40 way header.

The board is compatible with all Models of Pi Zero, including the 1.2, 1.3, and new Zero 2. The latest Zero 2 runs at 1GHz, but using a Model A instead means you can use the latest 3A+, with a 1.4GHz quad core CPU, for even better CoPro performance!

Once fitted with a Pi and firmware, this clever device doesn't just limit you to a 6502 running at 3, 4, or even 16MHz, it can emulate many of the different Co-Processors available to the BBC Micro over the years, such as:

  • 6502 running at either the original 3MHz, or up to a blistering equivalent of well over 300MHz
  • A Z80, running at 60Mhz for CP/M
  • An 80286 for DOS
  • A 32016 Cambridge Co-Processor for running the Panos Operating System.
  • A 6809
  • A 9MHz emulation of the original ARM Evaluation system
  • native ARM Co-Processor, running at up to 1.4GHz!
This board is specifically for the BBC Master 128 (also the Turbo or 512, replacing the existing CoPro), that plugs into the internal Tube port of the BBC Master. I also supply an external version that plugs into the Tube connector underneath the BBC Micro, suitable for the Model B and B+ as either an adapter board, or complete kit, please see my other listings.

Comes as just the PCB as pictured in the first three photos, fully assembled with no soldering required to complete. The other photos are representative of how it looks assembled, and the system running. You will need to source your own Raspberry Pi Zero or Model A, along with a MicroSD card for the firmware which I can email to you. Due to the size and positioning of the ports, this adapter will not suit a Raspberry Pi Model B. This adapter has holes to fit supports for the Pi to secure it in place, along with 3 holes for securing the adapter PCB to the Master motherboard. I can provide any of these extra bits if you need them on request at extra cost. This provides a much better and secure support system for the larger Model A Pi than using the smaller Zero based adapter.

This adapter is a new updated version. The position of the Pi has been shifted approximately 10mm to the left compared to my previous Issue 3 board. This means that the HDMI output of a Model A will not collide with the PCB power connectors, as it did with the previous version. I've also added standoff support for the Pi Zero, so you can use it with one of those as well should you prefer. Lastly, the power jumper has been deleted, as you can turn the CoPro on and off by configuration on a Master, so it is not needed.

Note the first three photos show the new Issue 4 version, the other photos show the previous Issue 3 board.

If you would prefer a complete setup, that comes with everything you need to plug and go, please see my other listings.

No BBC Micro software for the Co-Processor itself is included, but this can all be downloaded from the net, or I can supply boot disk images for various cores on request free of charge, to use on a GOTEK USB Floppy drive (Please see my other listings if you're interested in one of those as well).

Due to 2nd class mail becoming more and more unreliable, all items are now being migrated to Tracked 48 postage. T48 and T24 postage on small items are usually free for any additional items of the same type. I am unable to get the system to automate combined postage for different items, however if you make the purchase for multiple different items using the basket method, I will combine them into one parcel where possible, and refund any postage excess at the time of shipping.

** UK POSTAGE BY ROYAL MAIL TRACKED 48 **

** Worldwide shipping by the eBay Global Shipping Program **
** Please check my feedback! **

We also supply GOTEK USB drives for the BBC Micro, as well as Raspberry Pi multi-core Second processors in internal and external versions.
As well as 1770 Disk Upgrade kits, 4 way switchable OSs for the Master 128 and 2 way for the B+, we can supply other refurbished BBC Model Bs and Master 128s to your specification.
