1MHz BUS IDE ADFS type Hard Drive interface ideal for CF Cards
for the BBC Model B, B+ and Master 128

This is a Buy-It-Now sale, for a new 1MHz bus IDE Interface board, for use with ADFS 1.32 or 1.33 on the Model B or B+, and ADFS 1.53 or 2.05 for the BBC Master 128. It should also be suitable for the Acorn Electron, providing you have a compatible 1MHz bus interface such as an AP5 and the correct ADFS version, but I have not yet tested this.

In this sale you are buying just the adapter PCB assembled and tested, that allows you to plug your own IDE device into it. This can be either a regular 40 pin IDE device, or ideally a Compact Flash card, via a suitable CF-IDE adapter. These can be purchased on eBay or elsewhere for a few pounds. When used with the IDE type ADFS, the system works in the same was as the original Winchester systems did back in the day, and is fully compatible with software that uses one.

This adapter board supplies +5v power to a compatible CF adapter via pin 20 of the 40 way connector. If you're using another IDE device, or your CF adapter is not Pin 20 power compatible, you will need to power that separately.

The advantage of the CF system is it's fully ADFS compliant, and is the same system that was used with my DataCentre. This means that DataCentre images are fully compatible, as are other .DAT hard drive images you may find on the net, or use with BeebEm and the like. See my other listings for the IDE Hard Drive kits for more info, including a caveat around memory on using the System with a standard Model B or B+. The memory restrictions do not apply when used on a Master 128.

The board connects to the BBC Micro via two cables, one to the 1MHz bus connector, and the other for power. The power cable is compatible with a 3.5" floppy drive or GOTEK power connector. I have the cables available as a GOTEK power cable set that takes power from the BBC AUX port, please see my other listings.

NOTE: The IDE cable or CF adapter can plug in either way round, and if plugged in backwards can cause a short circuit. When looking at the adapter from the top, and IDE connector closest to you, pin 1 is on the LEFT. See the photos for how a CF adapter connects.

Comes as just the PCB as pictured in the first four photos. The other photos are representative of how it looks assembled into a BBC Micro. You will need to source your own IDE device to use, as well as the two cables. A 34w cable approximately 40cm will be sufficient for a Model B, around 50cm for a Master 128 if installing in the position shown in the last photo.

If you would prefer a full ADFS CF hard drive kit, with everything you need to plug and play, see my other listings. I have separate kits suitable for the Model B and Master 128.

As with any of my products if you have an issue or question, feel free to message, especially with one like this that may need extra setting up or the correct accessories to go with it.
