This auction is for a vintage sealed new-old-stock “MG Classic English Sports Car” plastic 1:32 scale model car kit by MPC. The box is marked in part as follows: MG CLASSIC ENGLISH SPORTS CAR. 1/32 SCALE MODEL KIT. MOLDED IN BLUE. FOR AGES 10 TO ADULT. PAINT AND CEMENT NOT INCLUDED. 1-0901. MPC. © 1982 FUNDIMENSIONS. DIVISION OF CPG PRODUCTS CORP., MT. CLEMENS, MI. MADE AND LITHO IN U.S.A. The box also has a couple of old price tag stickers affixed to it that read ERIC FUCHS.
The box has some caving, dirty and/or stained type spots/areas, and normal shelf wear (see pictures). The shrink-wrap has scratches, scuffs, nicks, dings, dirty and/or stained areas, and detritus trapped between the box and shrink-wrap (see pictures). There is also a vent hole in the shrink-wrap on the bottom of the box that was placed there by the manufacturer (see picture). The box measures roughly 8” x 5” x 2” and weighs 4 oz. This is one of just over a dozen vintage model kits we currently have listed, mostly sealed new-old-stock kits of various MG models. They came from the estate of a long-married couple of petrolheads. Another shared interest actually brought them together—ham. Radio that is. The pair of young hams—the YL then becoming one of America's youngest licensed female ham radio operators when she was just 15—spoke through the air for a year before meeting. Between them the couple was licensed nearly a century-and-a-half, each maintaining their original call signs for over 70 years! It's no wonder that their shared appreciation of technology and technical precision would lead them to collecting their much beloved MGs (with a side of Porsche). It seems equally natural that they would garnish the hobby with precision model kits of their favorite vehicles, applying their eye for detail at the workbench as well as the "shack" and the garage—a collective 150-year legacy of technical passion we are proud to pass on with this kit.
