Rice seed can be planted in a prepared seedbed, on mud flats, or even broadcast directly over shallow water. Under typical conditions, this rice variety matures in approximately 75 days and produces a plentiful seed yield.

Application / Use: Ideal for food plots and cover cropping
Germination: Typically emerges within 7–14 days under optimal conditions
Adaptation Zones: Suitable for warm season, transition zone, and cool season regions
Mature Height: Reaches approximately 2–4 feet
Sunlight Needs: Requires full sun, with 8+ hours daily for optimal growth
Benefits: Highly effective as a supplemental food source for waterfowl, especially ducks
Planting Time: Best planted in spring through summer once nighttime temperatures consistently exceed 65°F

Pre-Soaking & Preparation

Begin by soaking the seeds in a large container of water, removing any that float. After 24–36 hours, drain the seeds and transfer them into a damp sack (such as burlap or a pillowcase). Keep the sack in a warm, shaded area for another 24 hours, turning it occasionally and maintaining moisture. The seed is then ready to be broadcast into water up to 6 inches deep.

Planting Methods

Rice seed can also be broadcast or conventionally drilled into a firm seedbed, no-till drilled into terminated sod, or spread across mud flats. To help manage weed growth, flood irrigation is recommended.

This crop typically reaches maturity in about 75 days and yields an abundant supply of seed.
