A refined antique bar brooch in the classic Edwardian style, comprising a slender square-section gilt bar centred with a single lustrous pearl mounted in a simple cup setting. The understated design relies entirely on the quality of its proportions and the soft cream lustre of the pearl for its elegance, with the characteristic subtle orient and gentle tonal variation that distinguishes a genuine pearl.

Bar brooches of this form were enormously popular from the late Victorian era through the Edwardian period and into the 1920s, worn at the throat to fasten lace collars and blouses or pinned to lapels and ties as discreet everyday jewellery. Pearl-set examples on gilt mounts offered a more accessible alternative to solid gold pieces while retaining all of the elegance of the period style.
