The item

America's Thanksgiving holiday and Turkeys go hand in hand and our collector's plate celebrates this special and historic connection with 'Native American Wild Turkeys'.

The plate was produced under the Windsor Ware brand and made by one of Englands oldest and most respected potteries, Johnson Bros. The remarkably intricate subject matter depicts a brown transfer printed border of birds and flowers and features a majestic coloured turkey in the centre of the plate. This little work of art is based on a genuine and original hand engraving.

These plates can be used as dinner ware, but this one has spent its life as a collector's item and on display. It still has its original wall hangers. We were going to remove them, but decide to leave them in place in case a buyer wished to use them.

This is one of two decorative plates we are currently listing of USA interest; the other is the beautiful 'Birds of America - the Baltimore Oriole' by another English pottery, Adams.

Condition

Although the plate is Post War, and now around 60 years old, it has survived well without chips or cracks and the colours remain vibrant. As far as we are able to see, there is no evidence of any damage from rubbing by the wall hanger grips.

Pricing

Whenever possible our asking prices are based on either our knowledge of the genre or on what similar pieces have actually been sold for on the international market, rather than what some sellers are asking, which are usually two very different things!

We take into account rarity, collectability and condition and you will normally find that our prices sit somewhere in the middle between auction and professional dealer prices; and we are always willing to consider realistic offers.

Shipping

We have enjoyed a 100pc success rate for over a decade of successfully shipping fragile ceramics and glassware across the UK and the wider World.

In the UK, we normally use the Royal Mail and our shipping charge is now based on the 1st Class Signed-for service to give items the best chance of arriving with buyers quickly and safely and avoiding disappointment. Services which just offer tracking, where parcels can be left unattended on doorsteps, is unsuitable for rare, elderly irreplaceable pieces. And we only charge buyers what the Post Office charges us.

International shipping? Since Covid, we have started to use eBay's Global Shipping Programme because it has proved to be competitive and reliable. It also takes care of the international paperwork, which is helpful for buyers and sellers at a time when international tariffs keep changing. This item, however, is light enough to be sent using the Royal Mail's Airmail service. If you want a price for this service please contact us before buying.
