This Victorian 19th-century carved oak purdonium or coal scuttle features an impressive central relief of a lion mask on the sloping front panel, surrounded by intricate carvings of vines and grape clusters.

The side panels continue this botanical theme with deep-relief carvings of heavy grape bunches, all finished in a dark, rich oak patina that highlights the artisanal craftsmanship of the period.

A sturdy, hand-carved handle with leaf motifs is mounted on the top, and the box rests on solid block feet, maintaining the substantial and ornate aesthetic popular in the mid-to-late 19th century.
