Gibson B-15

Description

The B-15 was the most affordable basic model in Gibson's lineup, produced for only a short period from 1967 to 1970.
It started with the same specifications as the all-mahogany LG-0, but without binding and with a slimmer headstock design. Midway through 1969, a minor change occurred, switching the top wood to spruce, the same as higher-end models. This spruce top was only produced for about a year, making it extremely rare.
This particular instrument is a late 1969 model with a spruce top. It produces a sound with more tension and definition than a mahogany top.
It's a compact, adjustable saddle model, and it has that distinctive, earthy sound only found in vintage guitars of this era.

The top is spruce, the sides and back are mahogany, it has a rosewood fingerboard, mahogany bridge, and a rosewood adjustable saddle.
The tuners are original open-back tuners; while there is some torque inconsistency, tuning is not a problem.

This guitar retains its original nut and frets, and has been adjusted to be even lower than the original, thin, low fretless "wonder" frets.

It has a matte satin finish with significant weather checking.

It has a classic look and shows signs of use, but is in remarkably good condition.

The neck is a narrow, slender design with a nut width of approximately 39mm.

The adjustable truss rod works well, but tightening it is quite stiff. It functions without any issues for the time being, so you can use it with confidence.

At the 12th fret, the string height is 2.1mm for the 6th string and 1.6mm for the 1st string. With a Gibson scale length, it should be very easy to play.

The saddle adjustment on the 1st string side is as low as it can go; further lowering would require filing the saddle. However, it's already set quite low, so further lowering is unlikely. The bass strings might benefit from a slight increase in volume.

It has the light, simple tone characteristic of ladder bracing, with plenty of volume.

The tone is similar to the LG-1, a light, dry, and earthy sound.

It has a great atmosphere for soulful blues and fingerstyle playing, but its unique tone also suits regular singing and playing.

The volume isn't particularly high, but the tone is full of atmosphere, and it's fun to play slides with it.

Just strumming it in your room gives off a cool, vintage feel that's really satisfying.

The simple, worn look and cool vintage tone are a great combination.

Comes with the original paper softshell case from that era.
