DESCRIPTION

Wonderful pastoral landscape with a reedy pond in front and a country house and tall trees in the background.  Signed clearly lower right "GEORGE W. DREW."  Framed in a heavy gold wooden frame.

CONDITION

Overall excellent.  Minor paint wear in the lower foreground. 
Some gilding loss around the edges of the frame (all visible in the images).  A FINE RURAL LANDSCAPE BY A WELL KNOWN AMERICAN ARTIST.

George W. Drew was born December 21st, 1875, in Massachusetts.  He is known for his rustic luminous depictions of the Nineteenth Century American Landscape.  Like many of the Hudson River Painters, Drew captures the effects of light from within the canvas.  He is a master of perspective; his landscapes are classically and harmoniously balanced, leaving the viewer to gently rest their eyes on the rustic countryside.
